Powering Our City
One of the most unique things about the City of Summerside is that we own our own electrical utility. Summerside Electric supplies electricity to most residential and commercial buildings within the City. This electricity is mainly generated by our Summerside Wind Farm Windmills and purchased from off-Island sources, most notably New Brunswick Power supplied to us by submarine transmission cables under the Northumberland Strait. In 2023, a solar farm will become operational, providing up to an addition 21 mega-watts of electricity to the grid.
