Emergency Preparedness

When an Emergency Strikes

The City of Summerside is prepared to carry out an effective, coordinated response to minimize injury, damage, and losses to people, property, and the environment in the event of an emergency.

The City of Summerside Emergency Measures team would like to remind the public of the importance of having a 72-hour emergency preparedness plan. Emergencies can happen at any time, and citizens should be ready to care for themselves and their family for at least 72 hours.

A 72-hour emergency kit should include items such as:

w a supply of water for between 3 and 7 days;
w non-perishable food;
w a stocked first aid kit;
w prescription and non-prescription medicines;
w formula, diapers, and other baby supplies, if needed;
w a manual can opener;
w toiletries; w battery-powered radios and flashlights with extra batteries; w blankets and a change of clothing for each household member; w candles and matches or a lighter; w cash; w and, a charged cell phone.
