Officers Have Heart
The Summerside Police Department has a big presence within the City. We make an effort to give back to the community we work so hard to protect. The following are some of the things we do to connect with residents:
- Every year, our members adopt a local family in need to provide them with food and gifts for Christmas
- Chief Poirier often visits schools and reads stories to children
- Members are involved in local school breakfast programs and volunteer on a regular basis
- The Department participates in a Secret Santa project during the holidays, distributing gift cards at random
- Also during the holidays, the Department has founded a Cops for Christmas program which sees Chief Poirier locked in the back of the 1-ton “paddy wagon” inside Credit Union Place until it is filled with donations of new toys and clothes for kids
