Displaying our Creative Gifts
Prince Edward Island is known for its great contributions to the arts, and the City of Summerside, through Culture Summerside, stimulates and promotes creative skill and imagination by providing many opportunities for emerging and established artists to exhibit their work.
By providing gallery space in two different historic buildings in Summerside, the municipality fosters greater appreciation, understanding, and enjoyment of the arts. There are also opportunities for exhibition through programs, outreach, and online initiatives.
Lefurgey Cultural Centre
The Lefurgey Cultural Centre, located at 205 Prince Street, is used on occasion for art shows. The former drawing room of the historic house is admired for its brightness and spaciousness and is conducive to the exhibition of various forms of art.
MacNaught History Centre & Archives
The MacNaught History Centre & Archives, located in the MacNaught House at 75 Spring Street, is a warm and inviting space suited to small exhibitions. It is open year round and is known for its series of shows titled “Sixty Days of Fame.”
Free Wall
In keeping with our desire to become known for our commitment to art and culture, we’ve placed “Free Wall” space in the City, and we encourage artists to beautify it with murals and graffiti.
The City’s Free Wall was installed in 2006 in Queen Elizabeth Park. This double-sided wall measures twenty feet long by seven feet high and is considered a “legal wall” for use by artists and creative minds.
Other outdoor spaces have been dedicated as Free Walls by individual business like Tube Fab
