1) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (Full-time/Permanent)

The City of Summerside has a challenging opportunity for a responsible individual for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.  Regular work hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours/week (day shift) with overtime when required.

Duties will include:

  • Performing laboratory tests such as PH, temperature, TSS and C.O.D. 
  • Maintaining accurate and orderly records
  • Troubleshooting process issues
  • Performing maintenance of equipment

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Must have a provincial Wastewater Certification Level 1
  • Must know the proper operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Must be capable of performing a wide variety of tasks with minimum supervision and must have a valid drivers’ license.
  • Be of good character, in sound physical condition and mentally alert.

2) 
Aquatics Manager (12-month term position with the possibility of extension)

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Aquatics Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of Credit Union Place Aquatic Centre in accordance with the needs and interests of the citizens of Summerside. The use of sound judgement, initiative, and working in a team environment is required. This position requires evening and weekend work.

Duties will include:

  • Assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of an operational and maintenance plan for Credit Union Place Aquatic Centre. 
  • Initiate plans and opportunities for the increased use and support of aquatic programs and services. 
  • Supervise, evaluate, and motivate part-time staff as well as develop working relationships with various providers of aquatics services. 
  • Assist in developing and maintaining safety regulations and programs to meet or exceed health standards. 
  • Assist in budget control, generation of revenues through membership and program fees, rental agreements, etc.

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Possess a desire for excellence, innovation, and leadership.
  • A passion for creating exceptional experiences for all our guests.
  • A minimum of two year’s aquatics and/or recreation facility management, coupled with experience in supervising and coaching employees and volunteers.
  • All pool operators’ courses, NLS instructor certifications and related coaching certifications will be considered an asset.

 Daytime Lifeguard(s), Community Services Department $14.95/Hour

 The City of Summerside is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work as Daytime Lifeguards within the Aquatics Department of our Community Services Division. Duties will include all aspects of supervising pool users and maintaining the Aquatic Centre at Credit Union Place. This position is required for morning and afternoon shifts.

Requirements:

-Current National Lifeguard Certificate

OR

-Willing to train with our Aquatics Manager in order to take a challenge exam for the Bronze Cross and then take part in the National Lifeguard Certificate Course in the new year.

-Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate

Instructor certification would be considered an asset but is not required. Lifeguards must be in good physical condition, be of good character, have good communications skills, and be courteous to the public.
