Sewage Collection

The City of Summerside’s sewer collection process gets wastewater from our customers’ homes and businesses to our state-of-the-art Water Pollution Control Plant. The City Sewer consists of a collection of underground concrete, clay, and PVC piping.

Our wastewater treatment facility services approximately 13,000 people. The plant is a tertiary BNR system that removes ammonia, phosphorus, and nitrogen from wastewater before it leaves the facility. The facility is also responsible for three lift stations at Northumberland St, Eustane St, and Reid’s Corner.

Sewer Utility Facts:

  • The majority of wastewater collection is done by gravity mains.
  • The City operates and maintains 11 sewage pumping lift stations that uses 11 force mains.
  • City staff is available 24/7 to respond to Sewer Backup Calls. They respond to issues by cleaning the City Sewer Main in the street using a High Pressure Aquajet Sewer Rodder truck.
  • We have a combined workforce of 12 Operators and Skilled Labourers operating the City’s Sewer Collection system and Water Distribution System.
