Residents of Summerside can apply for various licenses including taxi, bike, and animal.
Taxi Licenses
In order to be a taxi driver in the City of Summerside, you must:
- possess a valid Class 4 (PEI) driver’s license or equivalency
- apply for and be granted a taxi license
- obtain a criminal background check
Taxi license application forms can be picked up at either the Police Station or taxi companies within the City. Or you can print off the form below.

Taxi Cab License Application
Taxi license fees are as follows:
- Taxi Driver: $15/year
- Taxi Stand License: $100/year
- Taxi Cab License: $10/year
Fines for operating a taxi cab without a license can be up to $200. Operating a taxi stand without a license can range from $500 to $1,000.
Bike Licenses
The City of Summerside issues licenses for pedal bikes at no cost to the bike owner. Residents can pick up their bike license at Summerside Police Station.
Animal Licenses
Summerside residents are required to obtain a license for each dog or cat owned; however, there is no cost for these licenses. Fines for pet owners without a dog or cat license can range from $25 to $100.
Dogs and cats without metal tags (license) can be impounded if caught by an animal control officer, and the pet owner will be responsible for the impounding fee.
Residents who wish to own a horse, donkey, cow, bull, ox, sheep, goat, pig, mink, fox, wolf, coyote, raccoon, skunk, chicken, duck, goose, turkey, pigeon, guinea-fowl, snake, owl, hawk, lizard, or any wild or undomesticated animal need to obtain an animal permit from an animal control officer. Applications for this permit can be made to City Council. Fines for not having the appropriate license can range from $250 to $500.
