Protecting Your Property from Damage
The City of Summerside’s Municipal Services Department manages the drainage of storm water to protect properties from damage.
Our storm water system includes a collection and distribution network of over 73.1kms of in-ground pipes, some of which have been in the ground since 1950. It also includes a system of over 2,850 catch basins that collect storm water run-off and redirect it to natural bodies of water.
There are 147.5 kms of roadside in the City, 32.4km with ditches.
It costs the City $1,500 per metre of street to fill a ditch. It would cost $50 million to fill all the remaining ditches in Summerside.
