Maintaining our Culverts
Our Public Works staff regularly reviews culverts in the spring and summer to determine which require repair.
If your driveway has a culvert and it is in need of repair or replacement, you may be eligible to have this work done by the City at no cost to you.
A common problem with driveway culverts is the development of a "frost heave," which is caused by water below the culvert freezing and expanding.
If you believe your culvert requires attention, please contact the Municipal Services Department at 902-432-1268.
In order to determine if you are eligible for work under the City Ditch and Culvert Policy, our staff will need to know:
- Your name and telephone number
- The address of the driveway that you think may need work
- A brief explanation of the problem (for example, "my driveway has a large bump in it" or "my culvert has become plugged with dirt.”
After you have made your request, one of our staff members will be in touch to let you know if you qualify for a free repair. Culvert repairs normally occur between June and September.
