Man in Custody After Home Invasion
Yesterday, just before 3:30 pm, the Summerside Police Service received a 911 call reporting a home invasion in progress at a residence on Summer Street.
Two teenage girls were at home at the time the suspect entered the residence. Both stayed in the upper level of the house and could hear the suspect rummaging through the residence.
The girls contacted their father and grandfather. The grandfather, who lives nearby, attended the residence found the suspect inside the residence armed with a knife.
After being confronted by the grandfather, the suspect fled the residence and police were contacted via 911.
The grandfather and another witness were able to keep the suspect in sight until police arrived and took him into custody.
The suspect is a 27 year old Summerside man who is well known to police. He is in custody and will appear before the court later today to answer to charges of break and enter into a residence (with the aggravating home invasion factor) and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
There were no in juries to any of those involved in this incident.
