Man Facing Impaired By Drug Charges

At approximately 8:30 Friday morning, the Summerside Police received multiple calls of a Ford Escape being driven erratically in the Water Street East and Granville Street areas of Summerside.

Witnesses were reporting that the vehicle was crossing over into on-coming lanes of traffic and vehicles were having to drive off the roadway to avoid collisions.

Police located the vehicle in a Linden Ave parking lot where they spoke with a female occupant of the vehicle who indicated she was the driver.  The female, a 28 year old Stratford woman, was arrested for impaired driving after officers observed signs that she was under the influence of alcohol.

Further investigation revealed that a 38 year old Charlottetown man, who was also in the vehicle, was actually the driver.  He displayed signs of being impaired by drugs and was also arrested.

The male later refused to be examined by a drug recognition expert and is being charged with impaired driving by drug and refusing a demand.  He was later turned over to the Charlottetown Police who held a warrant of arrest for the man.

The female is facing a charge of obstructing police and will appear in court at a later date.

Man Facing Assault, Weapons Charges

At approximately 7:30 Friday evening, police were called to a Granville Street business by staff members who were calling on behalf of a woman who ran into the store reporting her ex-boyfriend had just pulled a knife on her.

The suspect, a 21 year old Summerside man, fled the area before police arrived but he was located hiding behind a nearby business.  The knife was recovered near where the man was hiding.

Police also had an outstanding warrant of arrest for the man.  He was remanded into custody and will appear before the court at a later date to answer to assault and weapons related charges.

The victim did not sustain any serious injuries as a result of this incident.
