At Summerside Electric, safety is extremely critical to all of us. Emergency responders such as police, firefighters and paramedics could be at risk when working near high voltage power lines and equipment and we want them to be safe.
Our objective is to provide a safe workplace for everyone. We also want to make everyone in the community aware of the possible dangers related with electricity.
Summerside Electric in partnership with the Canadian Electricity Association and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police - is promoting 'Electricity: The Invisible Killer” an electricity safety campaign for emergency responders.
We are in the process of sending out “Electricity: The Invisible Killer” campaign information to all City of Summerside police personnel and firefighters. It is vital that all emergency responders realize all the hazards related to electricity when responding to an emergency.
Annually in in Canada over 1,000 contacts are made with high voltage power lines and equipment. As well electrical substations are often broken into. Both these situations often require a response from police, fire or paramedics, potentially placing emergency first responders at risk of serious injury or even death.
