Recognizing Contributions and Achievements
The City of Summerside has a robust program of annual Community Awards to recognize contributions or achievements by businesses, residents, and non-residents.
City Community Awards include:
- Citizen of the Year (George Key Senior Memorial Award)
- Community Business of the Year
- Good Neighbour of the Year for Non-Residents (Frances O. Perry Memorial Award)
- Good Neighbour of the Year for Residents
- Mayor’s Medal of Honour
- Senior of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Volunteer Service Organization of the Year
- Youth of the Year
The Annual Awards Gala held in March each year is an evening to celebrate our Community’s shining stars. The challenge is to select only one in each category as there are so many worthy candidates.The selection committee has an extremely hard job. The City of Summerside boasts an amazing number of residents, neighbors and businesses who continue to volunteer support and give back to the Community in so many ways.
2017 Award Recipients:
- Mayor’s Medal of Honor: Basil Stewart
- Citizen of the Year: Duncan McKillop
- Senior of the Year: George Dalton
- Youth of the Year: Trinity Good News Crew
- Volunteer of the Year: Elma Noye
- Community Business of the Year: Vector Aerospace
- Good Neighbour of the Year Award Non-Residents: Belinda Woods
- Good Neighbour of the Year for Residents: Roger Gallant
- Volunteer Service Organization of the Year: Meals on Wheels
2016 Award Recipients:
- Mayor’s Medal of Honor: The late Dave Loggie
- Citizen of the Year: Dr. David Wong
- Senior of the Year: Dorothy Griffin-Farish
- Youth of the Year: Bronwyn Bridges
- Volunteer of the Year: Warren Ellis
- Community Business of the Year: The Medicine Shoppe
- Good Neighbour of the Year Award for Non-Residents: Maitland MacIsaac
- Good Neighbour of the Year for Residents: Seaside Landscaping
- Volunteer Service Organization of the Year: Generation XX
