Calling All Young People
If you’re between the ages of 13 and 19, the City needs you! In fact, you’re our future! We need your input, your views, and your suggestions to make Summerside truly your City.
The City of Summerside’s Youth Committee provides a communications link between youth and the City and encourages facilities, programs, and services that enhance the health, well-being, and quality of life of youth in our community. The Committee provides a voice for the City’s youth and the means to design, plan, and execute real municipal-related projected.
The objectives of the Youth Committee are:
- To keep the City connected on issues important to youth
- To host municipal workshops, forums, and other special events directed at youth
- To gather information on the needs and concerns of Summerside's youth
- To advocate for youth and the issues impacting youth
- To seek input from youth on important City matters, so their perspective is well represented
- To organize and present events created by and for the youth of Summerside
- To provide leadership experiences for youth and further engage youth on City issues
- To manage a (City funded) budget to carry out all of the above activities
- To enhance civic literacy and responsible citizenship in City youth
- To design, plan, and execute municipal-related projects
As part of its work, the Youth Committee submits a proposed budget to City Council which is considered during annual budget deliberations. A staff person is the liaison between the Committee and the City, and the Mayor (or a designate) sits on the Committee as an ex-officio member.
