Tracing Your Roots
The MacNaught History Centre and Archives is a place where local residents and visitors to the province can research their PEI family connections and gain a better understanding of the history of Summerside and Prince County.
Towards this objective, an agreement was entered into with the Prince Edward Island Genealogical Society making available the society’s valuable publications and genealogy research materials.
The transcripts of the handwritten census records for Prince Edward Island from 1881, 1891, and 1901 are available at the Centre as are transcriptions for all cemetery headstones across the Island. The PEI Genealogical Society has also provided an extensive database of information arranged by surname of families and individuals. Referred to as the Master Name Index, it is a collection of over 400,000 cards, which are available at the Centre in the form of microfilm.
