Power Planting

Tree Safety and the Suitable Planting of Future Trees

We are dedicated to delivering energy in a safe and dependable way to all our customers. This can be negatively affected by trees that come into contact with power lines and cause safety dangers.

Electricity and Tree Safety

Summerside Electric integrates safety measures in all our operations. When trees or their limbs fall on power lines they become an electrical safety hazard. Stay as far away as possible from all downed power lines or trees that are in contact with the power lines.  Under no circumstances should a child’s tree house ever be constructed near power lines. Never allow a child to climb any tree which is anywhere near a power line.  Explain to children that they never go near or touch a powerline and to tell an adult if they ever see a downed power line.  To report a downed power line call 1.902.432.1230.

Planned Planting

It is vital to plan before you plant anything on your property. When trees are put too close to power lines they can cause damage and sometimes power outages. Making the correct choice for the type and location of your trees can prevent unnecessary safety hazards and power outages.  Imagine how big the tree you want to plan will be in 15 or 25 years.  Look up in the sky before planting so you avoid being anywhere close to any power lines. If you have underground wires and want to plant call us  1-902.432.1230 BEFORE you dig, to make sure it is done safety.

Trimming of Trees

We provide energy to over 7,000 customers throughout the City of Summerside daily. However, our ability to deliver electricity is affected by trees growth around power lines creating electrical hazards. We must trim or remove trees to keep them an appropriate distance from our power lines.  We identify trees that pose a risk and trim them accordingly. It is impossible to predict all tree issues, but our tree-trimming efforts try to prevent problems before they happen.
