In 2011, the Province of Prince Edward Island, in collaboration with Maritime Electric, developed a five-year energy strategy called the PEI Energy Accord. The goal of the Accord was to:
- Lower electricity rates
- Stabilize electricity rate
- Increase PEI’s reliance on locally wind powerIn December 2012, the provincial government passed the Electric Power (Energy Accord Continuation) Amendment which set increases in electrical costs of 2.2% which would continue over three years to province customers with stable electric costs.
