Preventing Damage
In the event of heavy rain and/or snow and ice melt, the resulting water is known as storm water. Parking lots, roads, and other compacted areas don’t allow for rain to soak into the ground, so more runoff is generated in cities than it is in rural areas.
This run off must be managed properly so that the storm water collection system is not overwhelmed by additional water flow, and to prevent two major issues:
- Flooding
- Environmental risk due to contaminants storm water may carry
