Several fire departments across Prince Edward Island provide medical first response services in cooperation with Island EMS.
Island EMS Paramedics train firefighters to the Medical First Responder level of care in a program designed specifically for those who respond to medical emergencies on a regular basis.
While paramedics are the primary care professionals in all Island medical emergencies, firefighters can help in situations when lives can be saved by fast response (e.g., cardiac arrest).
We have a Medical First Response team in place to provide these life-saving services.
