PROCESS FOR CUSTOMER PROJECTS REQUIRING ELECTRICAL SERVICES

Initiation Phase

As a property owner starting a project that will involve electric service requests, be sure to review the following questions and if there are any questions please contact appropriate department (Summerside Electric, Technical Services or Finance):

Do you understand the building permit process?
What is your building permit number?
Do you currently have power service with Summerside Electric?
Who will be paying the utility charges and what is the account number?
Who is your electrician?
Your electrician, electrical contractor, or developer will be able to discuss with you the following details:
- Will you need both temporary and permanent service?
- Are you going to have 100 or 200 amp service? Single or 3 phase?
- Are you having overhead or underground power lines?

Planning

When planning a project, property owners, electrical contractors and /or developers should contact Summerside Electric to discuss temporary and/or permanent power solutions as soon as possible. This can be started by filling out the Service Request Form.

Response time will be as soon as conveniently possible but may take up to 2 working days.
This initial contact will allow for proper planning to ensure all resources (materials, people and time) are available.

Power Disconnects

At any time during a project a request can be made to Summerside Electric to disconnect the meter/power. Electricians/Electrical Contractors can apply to Summerside Electric to be authorized to disconnect a meter. Please click on the Electrical Contractors tab for more details.

We cannot guarantee that a disconnect will occur on the same day the request is made. Please allow for up to 5 working days for your request to be scheduled.

Connecting Power

Includes:

- Temporary Power

- Permanent Power

- Reconnects

Before any electrical service is connected, or reconnected, there must be:

1. An active City of Summerside billing account.
• To open an account please call 902-432-1230, e-mail customerservice@summerside.ca or visit City Hall at 275 Fitzroy St.

2. A Summerside Electric Service Request Form (see the planning phase above) must be completed. Please fill out this form, or call our office at 902-432-1268 for assistance.

3. A Prince Edward Island Electrical Pass is also mandatory and a copy must be submitted to Summerside Electric before power can be connected.
• This is an inspection pass from the Province of PEI, not from City of Summerside
• Only a licensed electrician can obtain an Electrical pass, consult with your electrical contractor or the province if you have questions regarding electrical inspections and passes.
• The address on the PEI Electrical Pass MUST match the address of the requested connection.

Once all 3 items listed above are received, only then will Summerside Electric schedule the connection, see below Maximum Time Frames for estimated connection time.

Maximum Time Frames

Once the required documents and procedures are completed, your electrical service will be constructed within these (maximum) time frames:
