Man Facing Impaired Driving Charges
Just before 3am Saturday morning, patrol members of the Summerside Police Service observed a vehicle on South Drive travelling at excessive speeds.
The vehicle was pulled over on Bayview Drive and the driver, a 21 year old Prince County man, displayed signs of impairment.
He was arrested at the scene and later provided breath samples in excess of the legal limit.
The man was released from custody but will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to impaired driving related charges. His vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.
First Cannabis Control Act Charge Laid
Just after 11pm last night, police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Water Street area.
In conversation with the driver, a 21 year old Summerside woman, police observed her to be in possession of marihuana.
As a result, the woman was issued a summary offence ticket in violation of Section 15(1) of the Cannabis Control Act for having possession of marihuana while operating a motor vehicle.
The charge carries a fine of $275.
This is the first charge laid by the Summerside Police Service in relation to the new legislation governing cannabis.
Reminder To Keep Vehicles Locked and Not Leave Valuables Inside
Summerside Police would like to remind the public to keep their vehicles locked and to not leave valuables inside.
Police have received 10 complaints of thefts and attempted thefts from motor vehicles during the past week.
