Numerous Traffic Charges Over Long Weekend
Operation Impact, a nationwide traffic enforcement initiative focusing on impaired driving, distracted driving, seatbelts and aggressive driving was held once again over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Summerside Police Service conducted numerous check points throughout the city over the weekend resulting in thousands of vehicles being checked by police.
The check points combined with increased patrol enforcement, resulted in over 30 charges being laid under the Highway Traffic Act to go along with dozens of warnings.
Included in the charges were tickets for speeding, driving while suspended, violating the rules of the GDL program and 4 charges for cell phone use which carries a minimum fine of $575.00.
