Man and Woman Facing Multiple Charges After “Car Shopping” Complaint

A 39 year old man and 54 year old woman, both of Summerside, are facing multiple charges after the Summerside Police received a complaint that the two were “car shopping” in the Spring Street area just after 8:30pm last night.

It was reported to police that the two were going from parked vehicle to parked vehicle trying to access the vehicles by trying the door handles.

The two suspects, who are known to police, were located in the Hanover Street area.  The male suspect is currently on probation and undertaking conditions to not have contact with the female suspect due to previous charges.

A patrol officer attempted to take the male into custody but he resisted arrest and fled.  He was caught in a parking lot on Granville Street where he refused the officer’s commands to stop resisting.  The male also indicated that he had a knife in his possession.

The officer then drew his conducted electrical weapon at which point the suspect became compliant and was taken into custody.

The female suspect was caught hiding in a nearby yard.

As a result of this incident, the man is still in custody and will be appearing in court today to face charges of breach of probation, breach of undertaking, resisting arrest, uttering threats to a police officer, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The woman was released from custody but will appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of trespassing by night,  breach of probation and breach of an undertaking.
