Two Stolen Vehicles Recovered in Summerside,
One Man Facing Charges
Two stolen vehicles were recovered by the Summerside Police Service yesterday and a 19 year old Summerside man is facing charges in relation to one of them.
At approximately 12pm yesterday afternoon, police received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the Maple Avenue area. Police attended and located the vehicle but the driver had fled the area.
The vehicle, a Ford Explorer, had been reported stolen from the Conway area and the theft of the vehicle is under investigation by the RCMP.
Police were able to use video surveillance from the area to identify the driver of the vehicle, a 19 year old Summerside man.
An RCMP K-9 team helped search for the suspect who was located at approximately 4pm in the parking lot of a Water Street East gas station by members of the Prince District Joint Forces Drug Section.
When arrested, the man was found to be in possession of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine.
He will be appearing in court today to face charges of possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Then, just after 4pm, police received a call of a suspicious vehicle in the Chelsey Court area.
Police located the vehicle which matched the description of a vehicle that had been stolen from Victoria West. The vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala, did not have a license plate and appeared to have been recently painted. A check of the vehicle identification number confirmed it was the stolen vehicle which is being investigated by the RCMP.
Nobody was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized. The matter remains under investigation.
